Speaker's Biography
Dr Uma Mariappen graduated from University Putra Malaysia (UPM) with her undergraduate medical degree. She then qualified with Masters degree in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She was trained in major tertiary hospitals subsequently, gaining immense interest in Reproductive medicine and infertility. She then pursued the subspeciality training program and trained in major fertility and IVF centres in Malaysia. She also completed her fellowship in Reproductive Medicine and IVF in Perth, Australia. Dr Uma is an avid gynaecology laparoscopic surgeon, majoring in fertility surgeries. She is a keen clinical researcher and has published articles in peer reviewed journals. She is currently the Head of Reproductive Medicine Unit in Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang and serves as the only Fertility Consultant in the public service in the state of Selangor.
